Students will read a chapter book of their choosing on their reading level and will construct a quilt made up of 9 informative squares. Each square will have a measurement of 4" x 4". The center square will have your name, the title of the book, and the author's name. The top three squares will include the characters, setting, and theme of the book. The other five squares should be major events from the story. Each square should be made up of 3 well developed sentences (caption) underneath a related illustration. In addition, each square border should be decorated. Students have a set of directions and a score sheet to guide them along in this project.
Biography Timeline
Students choose a famous person (alive or deceased) who they would like to learn more about. They use the supplied rubric and organizer to help guide them in their project. Using multiple resources, students research their chosen person's highlights, including birth, career, awards, etc. They then will create a timeline using supplied white paper.
A New Cereal On The Shelf
Students will invent a cereal based on a fictional book and design a cereal box that presents information about the story in a fun, creative format. The front, back, right and left sides, and top must all have information as it relates to the rubric. Students must also plan a one minute commercial to advertise their new product to the class. Be sure to practice your commercial.
Mystery Photo Album
Students will create a photo album based upon the 4 major events in a mystery book of their choice. They will need to follow the rubric and set of given directions to complete this project. Each event must be on a 4 x 6 piece of white paper to resemble a photograph. A well written caption must accompany each photo. All pictures must be colored with colored pencils. The front of the photo album must have several parts, including the title, author, front cover picture, and name of student.
Animal Survival Kit
Students will create an animal survival kit using their organizer with research on a particular chosen animal. They will research the habitat, diet, predators, and an interesting fact using various sources. They will then put items into the box that resembles their research. Finally, they will decorate the outside of the box on these 4 categories.
